The AUTO token also serves as a governance token, allowing holders to vote on proposals that shape the future of the Autofarm protocol. Additionally, AUTO token holders receive fees earned from the protocol, providing an additional compensation mechanism. The protocol's cross-chain capabilities also mean that it can support a wide range of assets, broadening its potential use cases.

Autofarm was launched in late December 2020 on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) by a pseudonymous entity known only as @mildgiraffe. The protocol quickly gained traction, with the total value locked (TVL) increasing from $5 million to $537 million in less than two months, making Autofarm a player in the BSC ecosystem by April 2021. During this period, the value of AUTO also changed significantly. Autofarm expanded its ecosystem in March 2021 by acquiring Farmfol.io, an intelligent portfolio manager designed to simplify asset tracking on the Binance Smart Chain. The protocol also launched its first cross-chain vault on the Huobi ECO Chain in February 2021.
